CLERGY SUPPORT & ONGOING FORMATION
More than 660 active and senior priests are assisted and supported in their lifelong theological, spiritual, and personal formation.
PERMANENT DIACONATE
Oversees the training and formation of men preparing for ordination to the Permanent Diaconate and supports active and senior Deacons in their ministry.

Oversees the training and formation of men preparing for ordination to the Permanent Diaconate.
PARISH SERVICES
Assists Pastors and parish staff in managing parish operations. Parish Financial Services offers guidance on financial planning, budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting. Property Management provides parishes with guidance, direction, project management, and oversight for maintenance, renovations, new construction, insurance claims, hazardous material handling and disposal, etc. Parish Support & Emergencies provides emergency financial assistance and financial support to poor/inner-city parishes.

HUMAN RESOURCES
Assists parishes with a range of services including recruiting, new hire orientation, performance management, and employee relations.
RISK MANAGEMENT & INSURANCE
Supports Diocesan institutions participating in insurance and risk management programs, including risk identification, analysis and assessment, fire alarm system maintenance, inspections, actuarial analysis, and crisis management.
FINANCE & ACCOUNTING
Provides accounting services for numerous Archdiocesan entities including the management of an internal audit process and manages the investment process of Archdiocesan investment funds.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Offers technology guidance to parishes, schools, and agencies throughout the Archdiocese and provides information technology, computer, and network support to Archdiocesan ministries.
PASTORAL PLANNING
An ongoing strategic effort to strengthen our 289 parishes and better meet the spiritual, formation, sacramental and outreach needs of the 1.9 million Catholics in the Archdiocese of Boston now and into the future.
SPIRITUAL LIFE
Supports parishes’ faith formation and renewal programs by offering retreats; the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises; prayer opportunities; spiritual direction; the small group faith sharing program, Why Catholic?; and other programs..
OUTREACH, CULTURAL DIVERSITY, AND DISABILITIES
By promoting education, communication, and the integration of different cultures and faith expressions in the life of the Church, this ministry supports 30 ethnic communities celebrating Mass in 19 languages. This ministry also helps parishes increase access and inclusion for children and adults with disabilities.
DIVINE WORSHIP
Every year, over 157,000 Masses are celebrated in our parishes. The Bethany Chapel at the Pastoral Center offers Mass twice daily, with adoration five days a week and the opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation every Thursday. Divine Worship ministry helps empower and sustain the active and full participation of the laity in the life of the Church by disseminating and explaining guidelines for the reverent celebration of the Mass, sacraments, rites, and devotions of the Church.
NEW EVANGELIZATION TRAINING
Annually provides training to parish leaders, staff, and volunteers on how to strengthen and transform parishes into true centers of evangelization.
MARRIAGE MINISTRIES
Over 1,000 men and women have been prepared for marriage through Transformed in Love. Marriage Ministries supports pastors and trains parish teams to offer marriage ministry at the local level, and supports and encourages married couples as they live out their vows.
NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING (NFP)
Teaches couples about fertility awareness and effective methods for family planning that honor Church teaching on the gift of human sexuality and fertility.
ADULT FAITH FORMATION (RCIA)
Every year, several hundred adults prepare to enter the Church and receive the sacraments in the Archdiocese of Boston. Adult faith formation ministry supports parish-based ministries that welcome adults into full communion with the Church through a process of education, faith sharing, service, and prayer.
PARENTS ALLIANCE FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION (PACE)
Engages with elected officials and public policy leaders to enhance social justice and choice in education. Assists Catholic schools with accessing public resources for their students.
MASSACHUSETTS CATHOLIC CONFERENCE (MCC)
Assists Cardinal Seán O’Malley and the other Dioceses in the state of Massachusetts by giving witness to spiritual values in public affairs. Analyzes the social and moral dimensions of public policy issues and works to educate the public and lawmakers on Catholic social teaching to develop sound public policy that seeks the common good of all Massachusetts citizens and the interests of Catholics.
BEREAVEMENT AND HEALTH CARE MINISTRY
Every year, hundreds of thousands of pastoral and Eucharistic visits are made to the homebound and those in healthcare facilities. Bereavement and Healthcare Ministry supports individuals and parish-based ministries that provide pastoral care to these populations.
PRO-LIFE MINISTRY
In an effort to build a culture of life in the Archdiocese, Pro-Life Ministry counsels hundreds of women experiencing an unexpected pregnancy through Pregnancy Help and ministers to hundreds more of post-abortive women and men through Project Rachel.
RESPECT LIFE EDUCATION
Over 750 young people participated in the Archdiocese’s 2014 Pilgrimage to the March for Life in Washington, DC. Respect Life education seeks to build a culture of life through a variety of educational and spiritual opportunities available in parishes and schools.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS OFFICE
Serves 40,000 students (grades Pre-K through 12) through a network of 119 schools in the Archdiocese of Boston.
FAITH FORMATION OF YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS
Impacting over 110,000 young people, this ministry seeks to form disciples of Christ and His Church through a unified vision for ministry to young people, from early adolescence through young adulthood with a particular emphasis on outreach in parishes.
VOCATIONS MINISTRY
With 70 men studying for priesthood in the Archdiocese of Boston, Vocations Ministries seeks to help more men respond to God’s call to the priesthood through promoting a culture open to authentic discernment, a true sense of vocation, and friendship with God.
CARDINAL’S MINISTRY
Supports Cardinal Seán O’Malley’s ministry as shepherd of the Archdiocese of Boston as he moves us forward in hope.
VICAR GENERAL & MODERATOR OF THE CURIA
Assists Cardinal Seán O’Malley in articulating his vision for the Archdiocese and bringing it into effect.
CHANCELLOR
Responsible for the financial management and administration of the Archdiocese, including budgeting, accounting, financial management and reporting, cash management, investments, risk management, MIS, benefits, human resources, cemeteries, real estate and facilities.
REGIONAL BISHOPS
Assists Cardinal Seán O’Malley shepherd the Church in Greater Boston by leading the faithful in the five regions of the Archdiocese—Central, Merrimack, North, South, and West.
DELEGATE FOR RELIGIOUS
Serves as the liaison between Cardinal Seán and the more than 1,700 men and women religious who serve in the Archdiocese.
CANONICAL AFFAIRS
Helps parishes, schools, ministries, and other affiliated institutions of the Archdiocese address questions and issues pertaining to Canon Law.
ARCHIVES
With a collection of records that occupy almost a mile of shelves, the archives receive on average, more than 2,200 requests from Catholics, parishes, educators, and researchers every year and are considered to be one of the most dependable historical sources for Catholicism in all of New England.
GENERAL COUNSEL
Provides legal advice and review on a variety of issues for parishes, schools, and related entities and serves as the in-house General Counsel for the Archdiocese.
COMMUNICATIONS & PUBLIC AFFAIRS
Assists Cardinal Seán in communicating and sharing his vision for the Church in Boston through the press and other outlets.
INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT
Through philanthropy, assists parishes and a range of pastoral and charitable ministries spread the Gospel throughout the Church in Greater Boston.
FINANCE & ACCOUNTING
Provides accounting services for numerous Archdiocesan entities including the management of an internal audit process. Manages the investment process of Archdiocesan investment funds, etc.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Provides information technology, computer, and network support for the Pastoral Center and other offsite locations. Also offers technology guidance to parishes, schools, and agencies throughout the Archdiocese.
ECUMENICAL & INTERRELIGIOUS AFFAIRS
Assists Cardinal Seán and the Archdiocese build strong relationships with other faith groups in Greater Boston including: MASS Council of Churches, Lutheran Synod, JCRC other Jewish organizations, and the Islamic Council of New England.
TRIBUNAL
Hundreds of families experience healing through the Tribunal, which investigates cases of marriage nullities, causes of Saints, and other penal matters.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY & OVERSIGHT OFFICE
With a special focus on assuring the protection of children and other vulnerable populations, this ministry maintains professional standards for ministries and all people who work on behalf of the Archdiocese of Boston.
